South Korean Prime Minister Chung Hong -won , Sunday ( 27/04/2014 ) , resigned from his post linked Sewol ferry sinking tragedy that resulted in hundreds of people on board were killed .

" I am sorry for not able to prevent the occurrence of this accident and not able to be responsible with viable after this tragedy occurred , " said Hong -won .

" I believe , as prime minister , I have to bear this responsibility and resign , " he added .

The South Korean government and the entire apparatus was criticized sharply following the crash, and the government's handling rescue operations .

" From the beginning I had intended to resign but to handle this situation a top priority and I need help before resigning , " he said .

" However , now that I decided to resign my self no longer be a burden to the government , " Hong -won confirms .

Sewol ferry boat that weighs 6,825 tons sank on April 16 on the way from the city to the resort island of Jeju Incheon , west of Seoul .

So far , as many as 180 people - most of the students who perform site visits - confirmed killed and 110 others were still missing .
