Chinese Officials Hold Academics Ethnic Uighur

Chinese security personnel have arrested Uighur scholars , Ilham Tohti , who has been known as an activist and a very vocal in criticizing the Chinese government's policy toward the Muslim minority .

After being arrested and subsequently detained as a result of being accused of " breaking the law " , Tohti with his mother and then taken to an unknown location by dozens of police officers. " The police also have confiscated mobile phones and computers belonging to us , " his wife said Tohti , Guzaili Nu'er .

" I 've asked the police about the point where the husband and mother will be taken . However all does not say anything , " said Nu'er .

" The situation is very influential to our children . They kept crying , and now I do not have a cell phone , " added Nu'er .

Hong Lei , Spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry , revealed that the reason Tohti detained were suspected of committing crimes and breaking the law . But Hong Lei did not give a more detailed explanation on the subject .

Tohti known as Economics expert in Beijing Nationality University , and is very critical of the Chinese government's policy of ethnic Uighurs who had been scattered in Xinjiang, China's western regions .
