U.S. Aviation Authority ( FAA ) downgraded the Indian aviation safety from Category 1 to Category 2 . In the second category , India will be one group with Indonesia , the Philippines , and Bangladesh . What is the meaning of the FAA Category 2 version ?
Flights from entering the country according to the FAA Category 2 can still serve flights to the United States but with high scrutiny from the FAA . Carriers from Category 2 countries also can not add or change their flight route in America . Exposure refers to the rules of the FAA International Aviation Safety Assessment .
Periodically , the FAA made a review of the readiness of air safety from various countries . For India , the FAA audit was held in September and December 2013 . The review found that there is a shortage of aviation safety officials for inspection and lack of training of personnel to assess the airworthiness of the aircraft .
However , earlier this week India has raised 75 aviation safety officers to prevent such downgrade last long . They also said it had overcome 29 of 31 issues raised from the FAA audit .
A spokesman for the U.S. State Department Marie Harf said the United States and India committed as soon as possible to restore India to Category 1 aviation services . Currently the team from the FAA is in India to discuss the recovery can be realized .
Harf said the FAA 's decision to refer to the standards of the UN International Civil Aviation Organization ( ICAO ) and has nothing to do with the dispute that erupted between the United States and India , related to Indian diplomats expulsion from the United States because of visa fraud cases and payment of substandard wages maid in America .
" This is a decision rule , " Harf said at a regular news conference . " I do not know how much time we provide for them , but according to my understanding that this is all made in the regulatory framework that has very specific criteria ( that ) the state must meet the standards of ICAO , " Harf said .
" This is not our standard . ICAO standards regulating all the country . We are committed to working with India to help them return to the Category A rating , " said Harf .
