Britain and France , on Monday ( 28/04/2014 ) , sending eight fighter jets to strengthen NATO air patrols over the airspace of the Baltic states amid rising tensions in Ukraine and Russia .
Four jets belonging AU Thyphoon England arrived in Lithuania to begin their mission . While four belonged to the French Rafale jet also arrived in Malbork , Poland .
British Defence Secretary Philip Hammond said the move was sending four fighter jets conducted to provide peace to NATO countries in eastern Europe and the Baltic .
" In the middle of the warming of the situation in Ukraine , then NATO should take steps to ensure the collective security commitment to all its members , " said Hammond .
Meanwhile , the French armed forces spokesman Colonel Gilles Nabors said as many as 70 French military personnel sent to Malbork to support the fighter jets the country.
Previously , British and French also have sent AWACS surveillance planes to patrol the airspace of Poland and Romania .
